Academy statement: Tobacco and Vapes Bill

Dr Jeanette Dickson, Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges said,

‘This landmark Bill could make a real difference to people’s lives. Tackling access to cigarettes and vapes will without doubt improve the health of people who otherwise would be more likely to smoke as well as those who are impacted by others smoking around them, such as children and pregnant women. We know that smoking is a major cause of preventable death and illness in the UK. The sooner we can move to an entirely smoke free generation, the sooner we will improve public health and reduce demand on the NHS.’
