Academy statement: COVID-19 and CPD

‘Medical Royal Colleges and Faculties recognise that for the duration of the COVID-19 epidemic doctors will be fully focused on clinical activity. As such it is unlikely that they will be in a position to undertake CPD in the full normal variety of external and internal ways that accrue College CPD credits – although they are likely to have gained valuable experience in other ways which should be made apparent during future appraisal discussions. If doctors have not met the expected number of CPD credits by their next appraisal Colleges will take a flexible approach and expect the same from appraisers. Doctors will not be expected to make up these “lost” credits in the following year.’

The Academy will also be producing FAQs about appraisal and revalidation during the Pandemic from the Academy Professional Development Committee.
