The fair to refer report commissioned by the GMC gives salutary lessons and important recommendations of how to address some of the underlying issues leading to over representation of BAME doctors in GMC Fitness to Practice cases.

The recommendations rightly address how BAME staff are treated in the workplace and the leadership required to address these issues.

With the publication of the Interim People Plan with its emphasis on leadership and making the NHS place the best place to work the publication of this report is timely.

The Academy and Colleges will be pleased to work with the GMC and other stakeholders to take forward the reports recommendations along with those in the recently published Hamilton Review and the forthcoming GMC commissioned review into doctors well being from Professor Michael West.
