The Academy reaffirms its commitment to evidence-based medicine

When advising patients and the public, it is vital to keep to the established evidence-base. This is especially true when dealing with pregnant women and children, where the potential for harm is higher. Vague statements, which are not backed up by scientific facts are confusing and often cause more harm than good. Seeking reassurance from medical professionals is to be encouraged but it is safer for everyone if untrue statements, that raise uncertainty, are not released in theĀ firstĀ place.
