Academy Statement: Planned industrial action by BMA Resident Doctors

The Academy recognises the right of all doctors to raise concerns about their pay and working conditions through lawful means, including industrial action. We know that our resident doctor colleagues are both the future of the NHS and provide significant patient care today.  We know that they are not happy,  morale is low, and there is still more to be done to implement the agreement from the last round of industrial action, which would address many of their concerns.

The shared priority of us all must always be high-quality care, and we are concerned that any further disruption at this stage will be very bad for patients. We therefore call on the BMA and the Government to engage in meaningful negotiations as a matter of urgency.
