Academy statement: DHSC announce independent review of physician and anaesthesia associates

The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges warmly welcomes the positive response to its call for a thorough evaluation of the role of physician and anaesthesia associates.

Dr Jeanette Dickson, Chair of the Academy said,

‘Professor Leng’s independent review offers a chance to chart a way forwards, ensuring these roles support the delivery of safe patient care and enable training opportunities for resident doctors, as envisioned. We are grateful the Secretary of State has acted on the concerns outlined in our request in September, and royal colleges and their members look forward to engaging with this vital evidence-based review.’
