Pastoral support is offered by RCSEng to all members and fellows, including those in FDS.

Yes via RCSEng. Confidential support and advice service with 24/7 helpline.

SAS doctors, like all Faculty members, have access to a network of UK regional advisors and faculty tutors. There is a national mentorship programme FICM Thrive which is intended for consultants in their first 5 years post appointment.

Does the Faculty promote any wellbeing campaigns?

The Faculty has dedicated wellbeing pages for all doctors practicing in ICM.
Founding member of the national Fight Fatigue campaign.

Does the Faculty have an anti-bullying policy?

FICM Deans are RCoA Council members and so fall under RCoA Code of Conduct.

There is not have a formal anti-bullying policy. The Faculty is, of course, against bullying and all forms of discrimination and harassment. There is a specific EDI statement in all Committee Terms Of Reference to address this.

Yes – regional workplace behaviour champions are available to SAS doctors as well as trainees.

The College “burnout” survey (published in BMJ Open) included SAS doctors.
There is a College Supporting Our Doctors Group, which has SAS/LED representation and hosts multidisciplinary Anti-Bullying Days.

Pastoral support is provided via our online programme of webinars covering clinical and non-clinical skills.

SAS doctors, like all College members, also have access to a network of UK regional advisors (some of whom are SAS doctors) and college tutors as well as qualified mentors through the College mentoring scheme.

Yes. The Psychiatrists’ Support Service service is available to all.

The College provides a mentoring scheme which is available to all doctors, though is particularly targeted around transitional points e.g. taking on a new role, moving to the UK etc.

The College is a signatory to the NHS England Sexual Safety Charter and the BMA Ending Sexism in Medicine Pledge.

In 2021 the RCR published its report ‘Care is not just for the patient’ which has acted as a catalyst for the development of a network of Support and Wellbeing Champions. The pilot phase started in 2024.
