Core  Programmes are being developed through working groups of the Academy Specialty Training Committee in order to increase flexibility and opportunities for trainees to experience a wider range of competences in different settings.

Core Programmes give trainees who may be undecided about their career pathway more time to make considered decisions about thier future. Currently there are two core programmes being developed:

Core Community-based Programme

The Royal College of General Practitioners, Royal College of Peadiatrics and Child Heath and Royal College of Physcharatrists and related specialties of the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board have been working together to develop a core “community-based” programme. It is the intention for this programme to be piloted in 2011.

The extension of the Acute Care Common Stem

This programme is being extended to include related specialties. It is the intention for this programme to be piloted in 2011.
