The Academy develops, revises and owns the intellectual property rights of the Foundation Programme Curriculum. The Foundation Programme Curriculum (the Curriculum) sets out the framework for educational progression that will support the first two years of professional development following graduation from medical school.
The Curriculum has recently been revised and the latest version for use from 2016 is available as an online resource at the UKFPO website.
It can also be downloaded as a PDF.
New emphasis has been placed on the whole patient, long-term conditions and the increasing role of community care. There is also more recognition of the workplace providing the majority of clinical and professional learning opportunities to trainee doctors. The acknowledgement of the significance of adopting new technologies to support learning is also welcome.
The review of the Foundation Programme Curricula was undertaken by the Foundation Committee under the chairmanship of Dr David Kessel.
