The Academy patient Lay group (APLG) has been established to inform Academy discussions, and to ensure that the generic interests and perspectives of patients and the general public are taken into account within the work of the Academy.
Its main responsibilities are to:
- Respond to requests for comment from the Academy and its committees
- Offer advice on generic issues that directly affect patients
- Consider the effect of actual or proposed government policy on the delivery of care
- Share common policy and processes
- Disseminate successes, good models and share good practice
The committee is Chaired by Mr Sol Mead and consists of representatives from:
- The Chairmen of the Colleges and Faculties Patient and Lay Groups that are members of the Academy
- Co-opted members invited to attend by the Chairman
