The UK Donation Ethics Committee (UKDEC) has been established as an independent source of advice and guidance on ethical aspects of organ donation and transplantation.
Committees
The Academy hosts a number of committees in order promote, facilitate and where appropriate co-ordinate the work of the Medical Royal Colleges and their Faculties for the benefit of patients and healthcare. Its committees and Chairmen are listed below.
Academy meetings and committees are only open to members of the respective committee.
Directors of Continuing Professional Development
The Academy Directors of Continuing Professional Development Committee (DoCPD) objective is to advise doctors and other senior professionals allied to the Medical Royal Colleges, on the development and administration of their CPD.
Academy Assessment Committee
The Academy Assessment Committee has been established to coordinate, facilitate and take forward the work of the Royal Colleges and Faculties with regards to assessment in postgraduate medical training.
Academy Health Inequalities Forum
The Academy Health Inequalities Forum (AHIF) has been established to co-ordinate, facilitate and take forward the work of the Royal Colleges and Faculties with regards to health inequalities.
Academy Patient/Lay Group
The Academy Patient Lay Group (APLG) has been established to inform Academy discussions, and to ensure that the generic interests and perspectives of patients and the general public are taken into account within the work of the Academy.
International Forum
The International Forum has been established to coordinate the international activities of the Royal Colleges in order to improve health through education and training.
Revalidation Project Governance Committee
The Revalidation Project Governance Committee is responsible and accountable for the overall direction and oversight of Revalidation projects according to the accepted principles of good governance.

Academy Trainee Doctors’ Group
The Academy's Trainee Doctors’ Group (ATDG) provides a coherent, informed and balanced view on generic issues relevant to College-registered trainees.
Academy Infection Training Working Party
The Academy Infection Training Working Party (AITWP) is developing an infection training curriculum and assessment system for infectious diseases, medical microbiology and virology.
Academy Specialty Training Committee
The Academy Specialty Training Committee (ASTC) co-ordinates, facilitates and develops generic work of the Royal Colleges and Faculties with regards to postgraduate medical specialty training, including general practice. It works in conjunction with other relevant bodies relating to postgraduate medical specialty and general practice training.
Academy Education Strategy Committee
The Academy Education Strategy Committee (AESC) is the overarching education body of the Academy. It identifies strategy, policy and work streams which need to be taken forward in postgraduate medical education and gives guidance and direction on how they will be achieved. It facilitates commonality of approach between the other Academy education related committees.
Academy Foundation Programme Committee
The Academy Foundation Programme Committee (AFPC) has been established to coordinate and facilitate the work of the Royal Colleges and Faculties to produce the Foundation Programme Curriculum for the Foundation years.
Academy Project Governance Committee
The Academy Project Governance Committee is responsible and accountable for the overall direction and oversight of Academy projects according to the accepted principles of good governance.
